It's the fire in his eyes when he's focused on riding the horse. That's when he's in control. Zip N Reb's been trained to respond to Christopher's nonverbal commands. When Christopher gently squeezes his calves into the horse's sides, Zip N Reb slows down. A slight touch of his non-spiky spurs, and the horse stops. Another touch of his spurs on Zip N Reb's sides and the horse walks. Christopher mostly competes in western pleasure horse shows, which don't require Christopher and Zip N Reb to jump over fences or race. Instead, judges look at what Christopher has trained his horse to do, how still Christopher rides and how well his horse responds to him. They look at how well Christopher knows his horse. |
